Final Conference

The dramatic effects of the financial crisis are disproportionally hitting Europe’s young population. Existing educational and labour market policies aimed at the young have not proved effective especially in relation to the most vulnerable, such as, for example, those with a background of migration or socio-economic disadvantage. 15 young research fellows - working in different European countries in the framework of the EU funded Marie Curie programme Education as Welfare (EduWel) - have critically researched the transition pathways of socially vulnerable youth after compulsory schooling. Embedded into international scientific communities and international stakeholders, the young researchers have explored vulnerabilities and opportunities of young people in Europe and the role education and welfare can play in enhancing those opportunities. The research fellows will present their findings and engage in discussion with European policymakers, social partners and civil society thereby revealing their alternative solutions towards a more equal and just society.
