Welcome to EduWel

EduWel Fellows

EduWel critically examined and explored vulnerabilities, opportunities and capabilities of young people in different European countries in times of the economic crisis in Europe.

Since 2010 the EU funded excellence PhD programme trained 15 international early stage researchers in 10 countries in researching the transition pathways of socially vulnerable youth after compulsory schooling into working life.

EduWel research is of high political relevance as it tackles the explosive problem of youth unemployment in Europe and the role education and welfare play in enhancing opportunities for socially vulnerable youth. It developed ‘tuned in’ knowledge that will feed into policy and practices which are currently dealing with processes of change.

Providing intensive training, access to the international scientific community and international stakeholders (such as OECD, European Trade Union Institute, Education International, Bertelsmann Foundation) the research fellows are enabled to become the next generation to influence the complex and intertwined educational and welfare systems in different European countries towards a more equal and just society.

Duration:   1. January 2010 – 31. August 2014
